Places to go - things to do

Why Nice? Well - urban people will claim that Nice is the only real
city on the Riviera. It has everything you may need (with the
possible exception of sandy beaches).
If you're the cultural type, there are lots of interesting sites in
Nice; numerous fameous museums, galleries, churches and historical
monuments, but also a lot of green spots - parks gardens, lakes and
fountains.
If your attitude is more laid back, sit back with a café crème and
watch life go by. Enjoy a long, lazy lunch sipping rosé wine in the
shade on a seaside restaurant. Be entertained by the local boule
heroes in a parc. Spend some time at the Nice flower and food market
(Cours Saleya) and while you're there, shop some of the fresh, high
quality ingredients for your own meal back at Maison Kaja. There are
countless of possibilities.
If you think you have seen enough of Nice (fat chance..) you can go
'anywhere' in less than an hour. Here are some suggestions:
East of Nice:
Shopping in Italy (e.g. in San Remo) or visit the 'lemon capital'
Menton.
Exploring Monte Carlo? Check out the beautiful Roquebrune Cap
Martin and Eze villages and the home of the rich and famous -
Cap Ferrat (dont miss Baroness Ephrussi de Rothschilda villa). Or maybe
just a dip in the sea in Villefranche?
West of Nice:
St Paul de Vence is a must. And while you're at it, check out Biot
and Valbonne which is in the neighbourhood. Antibes is indeed one
of our favourites. If you want to spend a day in the sun, consider renting
a sunbed and a parasol out on one of the peers in Juan les Pins
- you dont get any closer to the sea. If you haven't already visited
Cannes, now is your chance to do it. And maybe even St Tropez?
But now we're talking more than an hour - in fact you may easily spend more
than 1 hour in slooow queues the last 2-3 kilometers on the way in to St
Tropez (as well as out..).
Smaller villages around Nice which we visit quite often are: Falicon,
Asperemont, La Gaude and Tourettes-Sur-Loup.
If you have more (preferably - a lot of) time - the real (Bas) Provence
is not too far away. In fact, you could even go skiing in the Alps (but why
would you..).
Interested in wine? One of the smallest and oldest ACs (appelation
controlée) in France, Bellet, is almost on walking distance from
Maison Kaja. The wines from Bellet are indeed exotic, often with an
elegant bouquet and in general quite tasty (but not cheap..).
